I don’t know what it is, but I tend to enjoy dancing to DJ’d sets much more than a live band when it comes to dancing. This weekend was a prime example. There are very few bands who I can say really capture my attention and inspire me to dance when they perform at a dance. The Cangelosi Cards, The Boilermakers, and Gordon Webster have rarely ever let me down in that respect.
A good DJ can read the room, and offer up a wide range of styles to best suit a dancer and presents them in a manner that … oh, I don’t know… flows. The energy stays high while offering variety. To me, a great set is like geting a crush. You want more and more of that sound than makes your heart go *boom* – butterflies in your stomach, and lusting over a hot dance. I love it when music makes me jump out of my chair and say “I need to dance”.
Like I said. Few bands can make this happen for me. That’s why I appreciate events with great DJ’s.
Might I add as a sidenote – Thank you’s for totally salvaging this weekend’s dances for me with great music: Gina Helfrich, Michael Gamble, Jesse Gearhart, and Jeramie Anderson.
Aww, shucks. Thanks.
Michael Gamble and his sets do that for me every time!
Have you thought about taking up DJ’ing yourself?
